The Doge’s Palace in Venice is one of the city’s most important and most visited landmarks, making it an unmissable stop for anyone wishing to discover the history of the Venetian Republic. Once the seat of the political and administrative power of the Republic of Venice, the palace still preserves all the charm and splendour that made the lagoon city great.

The origins of the Doge’s Palace probably date back to the 9th century, but over the centuries the building was expanded and enriched with magnificent architectural and decorative elements.

Inside the palace, visitors can admire works by some of the most celebrated masters of Italian art, including Titian, Tintoretto, Veronese and Tiepolo. Monumental paintings, precious decorations and frescoes tell the story and reflect the prestige of the Republic of Venice, offering visitors a truly unique experience.

The visit to the Doge’s Palace begins in the magnificent inner courtyard, dominated by the monumental Giants’ Staircase, created by Antonio Rizzo between 1483 and 1485. From here, visitors can reach the panoramic loggias and the famous Golden Staircase, which leads to the palace’s main floors, home to the majestic Great Council Chamber and the Doge’s Apartments.

With your ticket to the Doge’s Palace in Venice, you can also cross the famous Bridge of Sighs, one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. Built in the 17th century to connect the palace to the old prisons, it owes its name to the legendary final glimpse of Venice that prisoners would take before being confined. The visit also allows you to explore the historic prison cells and discover one of the most fascinating and mysterious aspects of Venetian history.

Tickets to the Doge’s Palace also include admission to the Museo dell’Opera, which houses valuable historical documents and the original capitals from the palace façade, as well as the Armoury, where an extensive collection of weapons, armour and ammunition from different historical periods is displayed.
