TORCELLO MUSEUM

The Torcello Museum tells the story of Venice’s origins through a unique heritage of archaeological finds and medieval artworks, bearing witness to the island’s millennia-long history. It is a place of memory and discovery that takes visitors back to the roots of lagoon civilization.

The collections are organized into two main sections: the archaeological collection and the medieval and modern collection.

The archaeological collection, housed in the Palazzo dell’Archivio, offers a chronological journey from prehistory to the late Roman period, featuring artifacts that reflect Greek, Etruscan, central Italian, Paleovenetian, and Roman cultures, placing the lagoon area within the broader context of the ancient Mediterranean.

The medieval and modern collection, displayed in the Palazzo del Consiglio, recounts the history of Torcello from the early centuries of the Christian era to the 19th century, highlighting its connections with Altino, the Byzantine world, and Venice.
